Whitney Farm, Horton

Who are we?

Dan and Sarah Dunning started running Whitney Farm in the spring of 2008. As a young couple, they moved to Horton in order to live out the dream of running their own farm. At their new farm in Horton they produce fresh, free-range and, most importantly, very tasty farm produce.

Dan brings with him much farming experience and thrives on the challenge of running a farming business. Sarah is on maternity leave from social work enjoying life as a Mum with their baby girl Lilyanna.

So what do we do?

Whitney Farm is a 73 acre grassland farm with a small Cider Apple orchard. The farm is situated just under the A303 bridge at the bottom of Pottery Road.

Nestling, as we do, at the foot of the Blackdown Hills we are in an ideal position to rear some of the tastiest free range geese and cattle.

The farm is home to a flock of Geese and a naturally matured small herd of native breed beef cattle, as well as a flock of laying hens. All our animals are reared using traditional methods to the highest welfare standards and are fed on home and locally grown feeds.

Beef

We supply Somerset beef boxes all year round

from our small herd of cattle. We rear Red Devon's, Herefordshire and Aberdeen Angus cattle as we feel that the traditional breeds offer the quality and texture that our customers are looking for.

We allow the young calves to mature naturally, resulting in a great taste for our high quality beef boxes. The boxes come in different sizes and include roasting joints, sirloin steaks, rump steaks, stewing steak, mince and burgers.

Customers are able to build their own boxes by selecting particular cuts and quantities of beef to suit their needs.
Please look at our website where you can see exactly what is available but feel free to phone or email us if you have any queries.

As is traditional for farms in the area, ours has a small Cider Apple orchard. Apples are gathered in the autumn and pressed by hand, the juice is then left to ferment into farmhouse Somerset Cider.

Geese

For the Christmas market we rear Free-Range

geese using traditional methods, drawing on over 20 years of experience. Our geese are fed on locally grown corn, giving a rich golden finish with a gorgeous flavour. This makes a Whitney Farm Free-Range Goose one of the finest poultry meats for any special occasion. If you are like us and cannot wait until Christmas to taste this luxurious meat, goose sausages are available all year round!
